Hashtags are an essential part of using social media. With tons of content being promoted on social media each and every minute, hashtags provide a simple way to search for specific content. With the majority of social media channels using hashtags, understanding how and when to use them is worth spending a couple minutes reading this blog.

Implementing hashtags in your social media marketing strategy provides the capability to find new people to interact with and new conversations to follow. They also give existing and potential customers the ability to track conversations about your brand and your products and help you keep an eye on what’s going on in your industry. For example, if you’re a photographer, you may want to track hashtags like #photography, #photooftheday, #cameraTip, and #phototips. This will give you the advantage of knowing what your competitors are up to, and the opportunity to participate in conversations.

Additionally, when you want to target your social media message to a specific group of people, there’s no better way than by using relevant hashtags. For instance, if you’re looking to market to people who just got engaged, you could use the hashtag #ishesaidyes. Then, anyone who’s searching for conversations about " She Said Yes" has the potential to find you.

Something to note, Facebook use hashtags slightly differently, so that will be a different blog. I suggest placing focus on Instagram, and Twitter. With these social media channels, you can use 5 to 8 hashtags, so make sure to pair the right hashtags with the daily ones I listed below! Also, I recommend using a hashtag generating tool like " hastagify.me to find and analyze the top performing hashtags for your industry or even your local area.
